Use a Gutter as a Window Box

You all know how excited I get about a cheap DIY project.  I wanted window boxes under the windows that are in the front of the house.  Originally I was going to have my other half build them out of wood but then they would be heavy.  I wanted a lighter option that didn't require too much drilling into the vinyl siding.  This was the best option I came up with.  I bought a 16ft piece of gutter. two left caps and two right caps, as well as 4 gutter brackets.  These were all found in the same aisle at Menards.

My husband cut the gutter to the size of the window.  He used two of the brackets above for each gutter to connect it to the house.  He put the caps on each end of the gutter.

I filled each gutter with expanding insulating foam.  Each one took a whole bottle of it.  Once it dried I stuck fake flowers in it.

The whole project cost about $75 with $48 of that being the fake flowers.  I could have saved money had I bought the fake flowers from Dollar Tree however I bought them from Hobby Lobby and they were kind of expensive now that I think about it.  Oh well!  I think the end result is pretty.  You don't even notice they are gutters!

DIY Blanket Ladder

Making a Blanket Ladder is very easy and costs less than $10.  The pictures are pretty explanatory.  Buy wood of your choosing, cut it to size and just use a hammer and nails to put it together.  I used white paint that I already had to paint it.  It took less than an hour total to make.

Craft Shed

When we purchased our home we were actually losing about 2000 sq. ft. from our previous home.  Our old house had a very large craft room however I could not find the space in our new home to house all of my craft supplies so we decided to turn one of the sheds at our new house into a craft shed.  I did not modify the walls or the flooring in the craft shed.  All I did was clean it thoroughly and then put the things I already had in there.  I did buy some peg hooks because much of the walls in the shed already had pegboard.

Painted Terracotta Planters

Terracotta planters are very cheap at Hobby Lobby so I decided to use them in this project.  I used spray paint to paint them then I used a washer and screw to attach them to wooden posts that are around the fire pit area at the campground site we have.  I then filled them with foam and while the foam was still wet I inserted fake flowers in them.

The Egg Shack

On our farm we have free range chickens.  In fact we have about 30 laying hens.  They lay far more eggs than we can eat so we sell the extra eggs.  When we originally started selling them people from Facebook or Craigslist would have to text me and then set up a time to come by and get them.  Often times those people would come inside my home, which can be a nervous experience, so my husband built a small shack that has a mini fridge in it that buyers can just drive up to and purchase the eggs at anytime without having to contact me.  We already had the mini fridge but it had some rust on the bottom so I took some rolls of duct tape and covered the entire front of the fridge.  We purchase a lock box that people can just leave the money in.  We also bought a plastic holder for our farm brochures in case anyone wants more information about our other farm services.
